Cycling 1,000 Miles for Kids In Mind
Tony Fowkes
My Story
This year, I’m setting myself a new challenge: to cycle at least 1,000 miles in support of Kids In Mind, a charity doing incredible work to support children’s mental health.
Some of you may know that last year I completed the iconic Land’s End to John O’Groats ride — covering 973 miles from one end of the UK to the other. This year, I’m going one step further by breaking the 1,000-mile mark across a series of rides, each with its own unique story.
My journey begins on 1st June, when I’ll be cycling from my home in Bedford to Amsterdam and back over the course of 7 days, joined by two good friends.
Then, on Sunday 14th June, I’ll be taking part in the World Naked Bike Ride in London — a light-hearted (and slightly daring!) event that’s all about raising awareness and having a bit of fun along the way.
Finally, in September, I’ll be cycling to Beauvais in France. This leg of the journey is particularly meaningful, as I’ll be visiting the site where the R101 airship tragically crashed on its maiden flight in 1930. I plan to pay my respects at the crash site and museum, leaving a small token in memory of those who lost their lives.
I’ve been a member of Rotary on and off since 2006, and giving back has always been important to me. Now, at 68 years old, I’m proud to take on this challenge to help make a difference.
Every mile I ride is for a purpose — and with your support, we can help Kids In Mind continue their vital work supporting young people who need it most.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, it would mean a great deal. Thank you for your support.
